TOTM X Wrexham AFC Women: Making Period’s A Part Of The Conversation.

At TOTM, we are proud to announce that we are the first dedicated period care sponsor of Wrexham AFC Women! As a Welsh period care brand partnering with a Welsh club, TOTM x Wrexham AFC Women feels like a pretty perfect fit and we’re excited to be part of changing the conversation around periods in sport.

We want to help make periods a normal part of conversations around women’s football, from the changing room to the training pitch and beyond. Because if we’re serious about getting more girls and women into sport, we need to make sport work for them.

That means talking about periods.

It means providing comfortable, reliable period care.

It means making it OK to say, “I’m on my period.”

And if you’ve watched Welcome to Wrexham, you’ll know that Wrexham is no stranger to a good underdog story. But this partnership is about more than just football. It’s about changing the conversation around periods in sport and removing the stigma we all know too well.

Because periods don’t stop when the whistle blows. Yet 7 in 10 girls avoid sport during their period, with worries around leaks, uncomfortable or unreliable period care, and period pain all playing a part.

That’s something we want to change. Through our partnership with Wrexham AFC Women, we want to challenge the idea that your period shouldn’t always have to be a reason to sit on the sidelines. With the right support and the right comfy period care, you can feel comfortable, confident and ready to play on.

We’re Championing Periods In Sports

For girls and women who play sport, periods are part of everyday life. That can mean warming up pre-match whilst worrying about leaks, running onto the pitch with uncomfortable cramps, managing period care from kick-off to the final whistle, and still being expected to train, compete and give the game everything you’ve got.

And sometimes, the biggest barrier isn’t even the period itself. It’s worrying about leaking through your kit. Wondering whether your period product will stay in place. Feeling uncomfortable in a pad that isn’t designed to move with you. Or simply brushing off telling a coach or teammate that you need to take five minutes.

Women in Sport research has found that around 7 in 10 girls avoid being active when they’re on their period. Pain and fear of leakage are among the biggest reasons why.

That’s a lot of girls potentially missing out on something they enjoy because managing their period has become another hurdle to overcome.

And that’s something we want to change.

For generations, periods have been treated as something to hide and something you whisper about. That period shame doesn’t magically disappear when someone puts on a football kit.

Why Access To The Right Period Care Matters

There’s also a much more practical side to this conversation: period care needs to work for people who are moving.

A football match isn’t exactly a low-impact activity.

There’s sprinting, tackling, stretching, quick changes of direction, plenty of sweat, plenty of jumping and, hopefully, plenty of celebrating too.

The last thing anyone should have to think about while doing all of that is whether their period product is going to leak, shift or rub.

That’s why access to reliable, comfortable period care matters.

At TOTM, we make period products with comfort and performance in mind, using GOTS-certified organic cotton from veil to core. Because period care shouldn’t be something you have to tolerate just because you’re on your period.

And importantly, having period products readily available means players don’t have to be perfectly prepared every time their period arrives.

Because periods are not always perfectly prepared.

Sometimes they arrive early. Sometimes they last longer than expected. Sometimes you forget to pack a tampon. Sometimes you realise halfway through training that you really should have brought a spare.

We’ve all been there…

Period Care Is Part Of The Kit

Being prepared for sport means having your boots, kit, water bottle and whatever else you need to get through training or match day.

For many athletes, period care should be part of that list too.

But preparation shouldn’t mean having to carry a whole emergency supply everywhere you go.

Having period products available in changing rooms, toilets and sporting facilities can remove one small but significant barrier.

It sends a simple message:

Your period is expected here.

You’re welcome here.

You don’t need to feel embarrassed asking for what you need.

That might sound small, but normalising period care can help create a much bigger shift in how girls and women experience sport.

What Sports Organisations Can Do Now

Supporting periods in sport doesn’t need to feel heavy.

It can start with the basics:

  • Normalise and promote conversations around periods with coaches and teammates.

  • Educate coaches and staff about periods and menstrual health.

  • Avoid treating periods as something embarrassing or disruptive.

  • Make sure sports kits and facilities support comfort and confidence.

  • Listen to female athletes about what would make them feel more comfortable taking part.

Because periods shouldn’t be something have to push through, hide, or plan around in silence.

They’re part of the game. Part of performance. Part of being an athlete.

So let’s talk about it… TOTM x Wrexham AFC Women.
