TOTM pads, liners and menstrual cup in bathroom set as part of cup newbie bundle

New to cups?

If you’re new to menstrual cups, it can take a bit of time to get used to them, but once you’ve mastered using one, you’ll be reusing it for many years to come.

We recommend our The Cup Newbie Bundle to help get started with your first cup.

Each cup comes with instructions in the box, but here’s our quick starter guide:

Wash: Always sterlise the cup before use, by placing in a pan of boiling water for around 10 minutes. And, as you would when using a tampon, wash your hands before use.
Fold: Fold to insert your cup, position it lower than a tampon and release for a secure fit.
Wash
Empty – In a relaxed position, use your fingers to squeeze the top of the cup to release the seal and gently remove. Empty your blood into the toilet. Rinse and re-insert.

GET READY FOR A BETTER PERIOD

“Game changer! The cup has literally changed my life… It’s so soft, easy to insert and saves so much time. I love it! Thank you!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the cup made of?

The TOTM cup is made of FDA approved medical grade TPE. It’s BPA-free, phthalate-free, latex-free and rubber-free. It doesn’t leach chemicals into the body because it’s medical grade and is easy to sterilise, which is why medical-grade TPE is used in hospital equipment. We choose to use medical-grade TPE because it’s a soft and flexible material. It is also widely recycled so will not end up in the landfill.

Can your cups be used with a tilted cervix?

Yes, our cup can be used if you have a tilted cervix. It’s possible to remove the stem of the cup to allow more room and for the cup to sit in the correct place.

Can you use products to clean the cup?

We don’t advise to use any cleaning agents with the cup as they can compromise the cup over time. Bring a pan of water to the boil, allow to simmer and then pop the cup in for a few minutes. This will sterilise the cup perfectly for you.

How do you remove the cup?

To remove the TOTM cup, find a comfortable position. Place your index finger and thumb into the vagina to locate the handle or the bottom of the cup. Push with your abdominal/pelvic muscles for easier removal. Empty the contents into the toilet and wash the cup with clean (preferably warm) water.

Is the TOTM cup hypoallergenic?

Yes, our cup is hypoallergenic and suitable for sensitive skin.

Can I use the TOTM cup overnight?

You can use the TOTM cup overnight. If you are new to cups you might want to use this alongside a liner or pad to prevent any leaks. As the cup is an intra-vaginal device, our consultant Gynaecologist advises following the same rules that apply to tampons. Remember to remove every 4-8 hours. If this does not fit with your sleeping pattern then we recommend switching to pads at night.

How do I sterilise my cup?

To sterilise the TOTM cup wash your hands and place the cup in a saucepan. Add enough water to ensure the cup is covered. Bring to the boil and allow to simmer for 3-4 minutes. Do not use abrasive cleansers or disinfectants on the cup, such as tea tree oil. Allow the cup to cool off before using. Remember to sterilise the first time you use it and at the end of every cycle.

How should the cup be disposed of? Is it recyclable?

Our cup is made from medical grade TPE, which makes it both reusable and recyclable. For safe and sustainable disposal, sterilise your cup before recycling. The cup can be disposed of with your usual household recyclable plastics.

How often should the cup be replaced?

Our cup can be used for years if excellent hygiene is routinely applied. If you notice any changes to the material, visible damage or a significant change in appearance then it might need replacing. Our customer care team can help if you’re unsure or have further questions.

Can I use a menstrual cup with an IUD?

You can use a TOTM cup when wearing an IUD, but we would always recommend consulting your doctor first so they can shorten the strings if needs be.

I’m new to menstrual cups, do you have any tips?

Using a cup for the first time can require a bit of practice! Our cup includes guidelines to help you get started. Remember to relax as tense muscles can make it difficult to insert. To help you get started we created a blog on this topic full of menstrual cup tips, including cup fold suggestions and how to care for your cup – Read more here.

What are the dimensions of your menstrual cups?

Our Size 1 cup is 40mm in diameter, 63mm in length and has a capacity of 17ml.
Our size 2 cup is 43mm in diameter, 67mm in length and has a capacity of 25ml.
Our size 3 cup is 46 mm in diameter, 67mm in length and the capacity is 30ml.

Is your cup suitable for vegans?

TOTM menstrual cups are registered cruelty-free and vegan with The Vegan Society & PETA.
