Size guidelines and usage

It can take a bit of adjustment when switching to a menstrual cup! We offer 3 size, so you can find out which works best for you.

Size guidelines:

Size 1: Under 18 years old who do not have sex regularly.

Size 2: Under 25 years old and have not given birth vaginally.

Size 3: Over 25 years old or have given birth vaginally.

Using the cup:

Sterilise the cup in boiling water before first time use. Always wash your hands before inserting and removing the cup.

To insert, fold the cup (as shown), part the labial lips and insert in the vagina (ideal placement is lower than a tampon). When inserted, release the cup for a secure, comfortable fit. Further insertion and removal guidelines are included with the TOTM cup aid first time users.

Gynaecologist advice on cups

I recommend with any cup to not leave it in for prolonged periods of time. The cup should still be removed, cleaned and reinserted every six hours or so for hygiene reasons. It’s advisable to not leave a menstrual cup in overnight. This is the same advice for tampon users. it is advisable to switch to pads if possible. Some people can find that a cup can leak at night (depending on sleeping position etc) so a pad can help prevent additional leaks.

When you first try a menstrual cup using it in conjunction with a pantyliner or a light absorbency pad is sensible. Correct placement is important when using a cup and some people can find this difficult when using a cup for the first time. To prevent unexpected leaks (and for peace of mind!) an extra layer of protection is advisable. When placing the cup for the first time relax and follow user instructions. When the cup is inserted properly you should not feel it at all.
