How to Naturally Prepare Your Skin for Winter


We all know winter is coming and that means it’s time to brace for colder weather. The colder weather can have a big impact on our skin, so it’s important to prep our skin as we head into the Winter. To help us do this we spoke to Hannah from natural skincare brand, Naturally Tribal.


The impact winter has on our skin:

“The colder weather can have a negative impact on our skin. Here are a few examples of how the weather affects it:

– Makes skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and acne worse.
– Dries the skin out.
– Lots of us have the heating on high during the winter and that can also dry our skin out
– The cool air can tighten pores and reduce the amount of oil naturally produced. This can allow bacteria to enter, which can cause breakouts.
– The change in temperature from leaving the cold and going into a warm room can cause capillaries in your face to contract and expand quickly, which can cause redness.

These things can cause people to dread winter but fear not, there are natural remedies that can prepare your skin for winter and keep it at it’s best. We believe in natural ingredients as what you put on your skin is just as important as what you put inside your body.


How to prepare your skin for the colder weather:


– Eat foods high in Omega 3 and 6 oils. Good food sources for these oils include eggs, flax seeds, tofu, soybeans and walnuts.
– Drink lots of water to rehydrate skin.
– Exfoliate gently. A good way to do this is by using a muslin cloth.
– Turn to richly moisturising products.
– Make sure to look for anti-inflammatory ingredients such as turmeric.


Here are some good, natural ingredients to look out for:


Shea Butter

Shea butter has anti-inflammatory ingredients which are great for your skin. It also has a mild SPF element to it (you should be wearing SPF all year round!) It is also great for eczema and psoriasis as it contains lots of great vitamins (A, F and E).


Coconut oil

Free radicals and the environment can do a number on our skin and the properties in coconut oil can help battle free radicals. It can also help psoriasis as it helps lock in moisture.


Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil also has anti-inflammatory properties, can balance oily and dry skin and contains Omega 3 and 6 acids (need we say more?!). It can help improve skin elasticity, softening and evening skin tone.


Argan Oil

This oil is packed full with antioxidants and Omega 6 fatty acids. This can provide deep hydration for our skin and reduce redness. The other amazing benefit of this ingredient is that it can help reduce acne by getting sebum levels, the oil naturally produced, under control.



This ingredient is an anti-inflammatory. This is great for dry skin as it can help eczema, which can flare up in the cold weather. This oil can also promote skin cell regeneration while reducing dead skin, which is great for anti-aging.
