7 healthy on-the-go breakfasts

We all know breakfast is the most important meal of the day but how many of us skip it because we don’t have time and then end up raiding the office biscuit cupboard, before wallowing in self-pity at our failed diet attempts? Yes, we’ve all been there, but help is on the way, all it takes is a little bit of preparation…

We have collated seven of – what we think are – the most awesome, healthy breakfasts you can eat on-the-go (and no, there isn’t a croissant or bacon roll in sight). Some can be made quickly in the morning, some you can prepare the night before and some will even last if you bake them at the weekend, so there is something for everyone.

Deliciously Ella’s Overnight Honey Oats

Oats are so versatile and a great source of slow-releasing carbohydrates, which will give you energy to tackle a busy day. They contain fibre and are high in zinc and magnesium, so they’re also great for those of us who suffer from painful menstrual cycles.

Overnight oats have been a ‘thing’ for quite some time now and they show no sign of going out of fashion any time soon. The best thing is you can add in whatever takes your fancy; peanut butter, berries (frozen or fresh), nuts, seeds, cocoa powder… the possibilities are endless.

Not Your Average Baked Oats

Slimming World is as popular as ever, but even if you’re not following ‘the plan’, these baked oats are worth a try. If you spread them across a few cupcake cases, instead of using the oven proof dish, they are ideal for breakfasts on-the-go.

Livia’s Kitchen Blueberry Porridge Squares

These are quick and simple to make, with only five ingredients, and they last for days. They also make perfect mid-morning or afternoon snacks.

Hemsley and Hemsley’s Apple & Raisin Quinoa Slices

Looking for something a bit different from the standard granola bar? Search no more! We love the crunch of these slices and what’s more, you can add your favourite nuts and cacao nibs if you like.

Ylimesalad’s Cinnamon Weetabix Biscuits

The perfect accompaniment for your morning Starbucks. Stick in a tupperware and off you go. We stumbled across this recipe completely by accident and thought it was so unusual we had to include it. Swap out the cinnamon for 10g of cocoa powder and you’ve got chocolate ones!

Danielle Copperman’s Avocado & Blueberry Smoothie

Smoothies are the perfect addition to any morning regime, especially for those who lack time. Jam-packed with nutrients and vitamins, what else could you ask for?!

Honestly Healthy’s Banana & Pecan Bread

Light and fluffy, there is even an option to make it completely sugar free if you so wish. Slather with nut butter, wrap in tin foil and it makes the perfect breakfast (or afternoon tea if you’ve got a little more time). Bananas are vitamin-rich and supposed to boost your mood, so this is perfect for that time of the month too!
