Want some tasty healthy treats on your next period that will satisfy those cravings? Look no further.
A lot of the time our period comes with a huge side effect of cravings. The most common are chocolate cravings. Now, i’m not saying it’s bad of you to give into these cravings – it happens to the best of us! You definitely shouldn’t feel bad for indulging in sweet treats on your period. But sometimes it can lead to us feeling even more sluggish. After the sugar rush comes the crash. Sometimes I feel a lot better opting for healthier alternatives. This doesn’t mean they have to taste horrible. I find they taste just as good, so they still curb my cravings and leave me feeling a lot less sluggish.
Why not try some of these healthy treats on your next period:
These are a great, easy snack. The amazing thing about them is you can make so many different types. You simply mix ingredients together, such as cacao powder and maca, and shape them into balls. They’re also the perfect on-the-go snack. So you can take them with you instead of being tempted to pick up a chocolate bar from the shop. Packing them with ingredients such as cacao and dates helps curb any sugar/chocolate cravings. Why not try these almond and cacao ones from Deliciously Ella?
Raw chocolate brownies
Raw cacao powder is the perfect alternative to plain cocoa powder. I am obsessed with it. It can be used for so many different things to satisfy chocolate cravings. It is also SO good for you. Why not use it to whip up some raw chocolate brownies? Try these for a tasty chocolate treat. You can also buy raw cacao nibs as alternatives to chocolate chips.
If you are in the mood for a chocolate bar, why not try opting for a dark chocolate one? Dark chocolate is actually a powerful source of antioxidants, along with fiber, manganese and magnesium. Manganese and magnesium actually help ease cramps as well – win win! Go for one with a percentage of 70 or above.
Healthy ice cream
When i’m on my period, sometimes all I want to do is grab a tub of ice cream and lounge on the sofa watching Netflix. I’ve recently discovered healthier alternatives such as Alpro and Frill. Alpro is plant-based and has 30% less sugars than normal ice cream. Frill is also plant-based and made from whole fruits, vegetables and natural ingredients with no added sugar. Use these to create milkshakes if you fancy a different type of treat! You can also make your own ice cream using coconut cream and raw cacao powder. Try this one for something minty fresh!
